Nutbourne Vineyards

The Gladwin family has been making sparkling wine at Nutbourne since 1991, though vines were first planted here in 1979. Two miles from Pulborough station in West Sussex, the vineyard produces between 25,000 and 50,000 bottles a year and keeps things firmly in the family—the same crew runs five London restaurants under the Local & Wild group.

The cellar door is open Monday to Saturday, year-round, and you can book guided tours on Saturdays from May to September. Fridays and bank holidays bring Burgers & Bubbly at the Nutty Bar, and there are occasional Farm Feast pop-up dinners right in the vineyard. Pre-order picnics and platters if you’d rather bring a blanket. A working windmill on site doubles as a private dining and events space.

The sparkling wines get high marks—reviewers flag the Hedgerow and Forager as standouts—though tastes vary, as they do. Dogs are welcome outside on leads, and kids are fine too. It’s been here long enough to feel properly rooted, and the family clearly knows what they’re doing.

Planning Your Visit

Nutbourne Vineyards opens Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm, and closes Sundays. The cellar door runs tastings year-round, and guided vineyard tours take place on Saturdays from May through September. For food, the Nutty Bar serves burgers and sparkling wine on Fridays and bank holidays, and you can pre-order picnic platters. Occasional Farm Feast pop-up dinners happen in the vineyard itself.

Children are welcome, and dogs can join you outside on a lead. The nearest station is Pulborough, about two miles away. If you’re driving, the address is Gay Street, Pulborough RH20 2HH. You can book tours or check what’s on by calling 01798 815196 or emailing info@nutbournevineyards.com. The vineyard specialises in sparkling wines and has been making wine since 1979. The site includes a windmill used for private events. Note that opinions on the wines vary—some visitors love the range, while others found the sparklings less to their taste.

What to Expect

Nutbourne Vineyards opens its cellar door Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm, where you can taste their sparkling wines and explore a self-guided trail through the vines. The Gladwin family has run this estate since 1991, and their enthusiasm for both winemaking and local produce shows in everything they do. On Saturdays between May and September, you can join a guided tour to learn about their approach to viticulture and production.

The experience goes beyond wine tasting. Friday evenings bring Burgers & Bubbly at the Nutty Bar, and you can pre-order picnic platters to enjoy among the vines. Keep an eye out for their occasional Farm Feast events—pop-up fine dining experiences held right in the vineyard. There’s also an art trail dotted through the grounds, adding an unexpected creative dimension to your visit.

The family’s restaurant background (they run five London eateries in the Local & Wild group) influences their food offerings here. Dogs are welcome in outside areas on leads, and children are encouraged to visit. Just two miles from Pulborough station, it’s an easy trip if you’re coming by train. Reviews consistently praise the engaging staff and the Hedgerow and Forager wines, though sparkling styles won’t suit everyone’s palate.
